The Maine Coon is the largest of all house cats, growing up to an impressive 40 inches. They’re often called “gentle giants” because they’re some of the friendliest, most affectionate of all cat breeds. For this reason, they’re highly sought after, which makes them very expensive compared to other breeds.

Melbourne's Yarra River is affectionately know as the upside down river due to it's permanently brown appearance.

The much maligned muddy colour of the Yarra is caused by the easily eroded clay soils of the water catchment. The water was clear at the time of European settlement, but intensive land clearing and development since the mid 1800s has resulted in the presence of microscopic clay particles. The particles are kept suspended by the turbulence in some parts of the middle and lower sections of the river. When the river water combines with marine salts as it enters Port Phillip, the suspended particles clump together and sink. The muddy appearance does not indicate an unclean waterway. In fact, the Yarra is probably one of the cleanest capital city rivers in the world. Since the major clean-up campaigns of the late 1970s and 1980s, the river has again become home to several species of fish and even the occasional dolphin.

This is affectionately called The Nightmare Tudor due to it's heavily accentuated Gothic lines.

The Nathan G. Moore House by Frank Lloyd Wright was completely redesigned and rebuilt in 1923 after the original Wright designed, more conventional Tudor style house was severely damaged by an electrical fire.

Though clearly based on the Tudor style, Wright also drew on Mayan elements, his Textile Block concept, and the organic design concepts of Louis Sullivan.

Lots more good info about the house on wikipedia and www.steinerag.com/flw/Periodicals/InlandArch&NewsRec.htm

An amazing and unique house!

In this intimate snapshot, we're drawn into the miniature world of Calibrachoa, often affectionately known as million bells. Two dainty blossoms take center stage, their petals a soft fusion of pink and yellow, creating a gentle contrast against the lush green foliage surrounding them.

The flowers are reaching out over a textured gray surface of a patio. This juxtaposition of the delicate organic forms against the hard, man-made background emphasizes the flowers' fragile beauty.

Calibrachoa's resilience is quietly celebrated here, as these blooms continue to offer their cheerful presence even as summer fades. The slightly out-of-focus greenery framing the scene adds depth and a sense of abundance, hinting at the plant's prolific nature.

This image captures a moment of quiet beauty in everyday surroundings, reminding us to pause and appreciate the small wonders that often go unnoticed in our busy lives. It's a visual haiku, speaking to the enduring charm of nature's small miracles.

Tibetan dogs are divided into 4 breeds: the Lhasa Apso, the Tibetan terrier, the Tibetan spaniel and the Shih Tzu.

Its nickname "lion dog" is linked to a legend, according to which this canine breed had close links with the snow lion, which in Tibet is a symbol of well-being.

In the sixteenth century, the first Shih Tzu were introduced into China, thus sharing with the Pekingese, the favors of the imperial court. In the nineteenth century, the Shih Tzu became the favorite breed of Empress Dowager Cixi.

A breeding of a hundred dogs was then established in the Forbidden City. The Shih Tzu would be the result of a cross between Lhassa Apso and small Chinese dogs.

When the Empress died in 1908 and with the fall of the Empire, the Shih Tzu left the Forbidden City and disappeared from the Middle Empire. In 1928, three dogs were exported to Great Britain, mainly by Lady Brownrigg, wife of General Douglas Brownrigg, who thus initiated the breeding in Europe. In 1933, she exhibited her dogs in the category of "Tibetan dogs" but quickly characteristics specific to the breed emerged to become a category in its own right.

Thus, in 1934, the lhasa apso and the shih tzu were differentiated and exhibited separately. In 1940, the breed was officially recognized by the English Kennel Club. In France, the breed was introduced by the Countess of Anjou on her return from China where her husband was a diplomat in 1946. The breed was formalized in 1953 at the LOF of the central canine society.

Aberystwyth, affectionately known as 'Aber', is a town with wider horizons than its rural coastline setting and relaxed lifestyle might suggest. As a university town, it's a melting pot of cultures and ideas: museums, archives and galleries reveal a depth of heritage to be discovered; superlatives abound: first, oldest, longest, best ...

Aberystwyth is an ideal base to explore the landscapes of Ceredigion the Cardigan Bay coast and the Cambrian Mountains.

The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway opened on 1 August 1896. It is a 778 feet long funicular railway in Aberystwyth and is the second longest funicular railway in the British Isles, after the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. Since November 1987, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has been a Grade II listed structure.

Affectionately known as Twentytwo, this building is a commercial giant that adds an aura of modernity to London’s heart. Its completion in 2020 has bestowed the City of London’s financial district with an awe-inspiring emblem that reaches a soaring 278 meters into the sky, extending across 62 floors. This architectural masterpiece captivates the eye with its distinctive form, tapering gracefully as it ascends. The essence of 22 Bishopsgate is further enriched by its amenities, including a remarkable viewing gallery perched on the 58th floor, an inviting restaurant, and a well-appointed fitness center.

Marina City, affectionately known as "the corn cob", is a mixed-use residential-commercial building complex in Chicago, Illinois, United States, North America, designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg. The multi-building complex opened between 1963 and 1967 and occupies almost an entire city block on State Street on the north bank of the Chicago River on the Near North Side, directly across from the Loop. Portions of the complex were designated a Chicago Landmark in 2016.

The complex consists of two 587-foot (179 m), 65-story apartment towers, opened in 1963, which include physical plant penthouses. It also includes a 10-story office building (now a hotel) opened in 1964, and a saddle-shaped auditorium building originally used as a cinema. The four buildings, access driveways, and a small plaza that originally included an ice rink are built on a raised platform next to the Chicago River. Beneath the platform, at river level, is a small marina for pleasure craft, giving the structures their name.

The Tibetan Terrier, 'Holy Dog of Tibet,' is an ancient watchdog and companion long associated with Buddhist monasteries. A profusely coated, small-to-medium-sized dog with 'snowshoe' feet, the Tibetan Terrier is affectionate, sensitive, and clever.

Jaisalmer, affectionately known as "the Golden City," is nestled right in the middle of the stunning Thar Desert. Its nickname truly fits, thanks to the beautiful yellow sandstone used to build its structures, which comes straight from the surrounding desert. The streets of Jaisalmer hide small treasures everywhere, offering a fairytale-like sight, just like here in this grand gate, where the light of an elegant chandelier gilds the lobed arcade. An entrance imbued with a special charm.

Capturing the Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), affectionately named "Ruby" by the Avian Reconditioning Center in Apopka, Florida, was a moment that encapsulates the spirit of this majestic raptor. As a photographer, what drew me in was not just the stark contrast of Ruby's plumage against the natural background but also her regal poise. The photo freezes her keen, intense gaze, which speaks volumes about her predatory prowess. The light perfectly illuminates her feathers, highlighting the textures and subtle color variations that make this species so enchanting.

It was an honor to shoot at the Avian Reconditioning Center, a facility dedicated to the rehabilitation and education of birds like Ruby. The center serves as a sanctuary for these magnificent creatures, and it's open to public visits. So, if you're in the Apopka area, don't miss an opportunity to see Ruby and her fellow raptors up close. My photography journey aims to not just capture these moments but to also drive home the importance of conservation and sustainable interaction with our environment.

The Wellenweber Antenna, affectionately called "The Elephant Cage" by the troops.

Wikipedia: The Wullenweber (the original name introduced by Dr. Hans Rindfleisch was Wullenwever) is a type of Circularly Disposed Antenna Array (CDAA) sometimes referred to as a Circularly Disposed Dipole Array (CDDA). It is a large circular antenna array used for radio direction finding. It was used by the military to triangulate radio signals for radio navigation, intelligence gathering and search and rescue. Because its huge circular reflecting screen looks like a circular fence, the antenna has been colloquially referred to as the elephant cage. The term wullenwever was the World War II German cover term used to identify their secret CDAA research and development program; its name is unrelated to any person involved in the program.

It will be interesting to see what their next chapter brings.

The Fox Red Labrador also called the Red Fox Lab, and sometimes known as the Ruby Labrador, is a stunning dog. He is a Labrador Retriever like any other, but with the color of a red fox. Despite being labeled as red in color, he is technically just a deeper shade of the traditional yellow Labrador. Like any Labrador, he is energetic and fun to be around, but at the same time, he is also affectionate and gentle with his family, which is why he makes such a great family pet.
